This is a very rare, one of kind Douglas Fir Burl flute with a voice that is unmatched. The body of the flute is accented with end caps of Padauk and French Maple and Padauk rings. Price: $1025 The reason for the rarity of the burl is they only occur on huge old growth trees. The Story: There was a lumber mill on the Williamette River (near Oregon City, Oregon) at the east end of the 205 bridge. At least 80 years after the Mill was gone, the orginal owner excavated the marina which still remains. In the process he unearthed a huge old growth sinker log and this burl. The burl had been at the bottom of the river for at least 80 years. The environment is what contributes to the blues and and greens of the pitch pockets which are normally blond, wheat color is the norm, the wood grain around the colored pitch is now a rich swiling reddish tone. |
