I have decorated it as you can see with some Celtic knot work, which is actually a bird animorph though the creature's head is actually covered by the bindings for the totem - I did these as eagle talons. I have not seen anyone do this before.

It might seem incongruous to be mixing Celtic imagery with a native American flute but there is an old Welsh legend that in 1170, Prince Madoc sailed off to explore the Western ocean and came back again a year or so later having discovered a rich land. He took a hundred or so settlers with him this time for his return to America and they were never seen again. The legend has it that they established a colony in South East USA but were eventually defeated by the locals. The survivors were absorbed into neighboring tribes - believed by many to be the Mandans, who use skin-covered coracles just like the Welsh ones. That might just be wishful thinking though.

Just before Christmas I had a native american flute kit in E from Quiet Bear Flutes after listening to one on Piriajeoshi's channel (thanks Bruce). This is it with a tune I made for it. Bwlch Ungwr (One-man pass)  is up on the Preseli mountains above my house, named I think, after this carn. The flute came as a square piece of wood with the bores made and the fingerholes. All you have to do is shape it and get it into tune by thinning the walls and adjusting some of the holes a little. The wood (Western cedar) is very splintery so shaping was done mostly by sanding. A bit laborious but it does sand quite easy. Nice flute, well worth the $90 it cost plus shipping.
